Please vote YES on Proposition 37 this November 6th.
Proposition 37 is simple – it requires labels so we know if the food we eat has been genetically engineered.
A genetically engineered food (also known as genetically modified organism, or GMO) is a plant or meat product that has had its DNA artificially altered by genes from other plants, animals, viruses, or bacteria. Examples of genetically modified foods include corn that contains the insecticide Bt toxin inside the corn itself.
We already have food labels showing nutrition information and other facts consumers need to know. This measure simply adds information to the existing labels telling us if the food was modified in a laboratory by adding DNA from other plants, animals, bacteria or viruses.
Nearly 50 other countries already require labeling of genetically engineered food – including all of Europe, Australia, Japan and China. The very same companies fighting our rights to know what’s in our food provide this information to their customers in other countries.
We have the right to know what’s in our food!
